About Worldwise

Set up in 1991 as a practice of Building Services / Mechanical and Electrical Consulting Engineers, Worldwise Limited has always been committed to providing energy efficient solutions.   Whether on large or small, new build or refurbishment projects our willingness to work with others to achieve this goal has been a hallmark of our service. We no longer set out to design ever more complex systems to overcome the inability of a building envelope to attenuate climatic and occupancy variations. Our aim is to influence the built form through dialogue with clients, architects and other designers to create comfortable internal environments with the minimum practicable impact on the external environment.

We have experience of working with many forms of contract including traditional pre-designed and design and construct engagements using JCT, GC Works and PPC 2000 Partnering Agreements. We have acted as designers, performance specification writers and design checkers. We regularly act as lead consultant on projects with a high Mechanical & Electrical services content and we manage all aspects of projects with an exclusively engineering content.

Background

Increased public awareness and changing attitudes towards Climate Change is bringing energy utilisation under the microscope with environmentally aware, low carbon building solutions being the goal for virtually all building types. Governments are steadily ratchetting up the regulatory pressure to create low carbon footprint buildings and this trend is set to continue for the foreseeable future.

No two projects are the same but our approach to each allows us to consider the unique features of the site and how nature can be harnessed to do as much control of the internal environment as possible. From natural ventilation and daylighting to the adoption of active and passive renewables, fenestration and structural thermal mass options we consider the most appropriate alternatives for integration into the environmental control strategy and how to implement them.

Achieving a low energy building can be complex; juggling design ambitions and buildability against capital and life cycle costs, ease of control, environmental impact and delivering good performance without compromising architectural aesthetic. Increasingly our portfolio reflects our success in balancing these factors and putting this philosophy into action.
